SEC and CFTC Collaborate to Modernize Crypto Rules via ‘Project Crypto’

To modernize cryptocurrency regulation, the SEC and CFTC are jointly launching “Project Crypto.” SEC Chair Paul Atkins announced the collaboration, stressing that integrated markets demand unified regulatory approaches to avoid investor confusion.

The initiative moves beyond the past year’s public disagreement over whether most digital assets fall under securities or commodity oversight.

The path to cooperation was paved last September when the CFTC declared an end to inter-agency conflict. Newly appointed CFTC Chair Michael Selig is joining the announcement, putting a fresh face on the coordinated effort.
