SEC Ends Investigation Into Uniswap

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has ended its investigation into Uniswap Labs, the Brooklyn-based company responsible for the decentralized protocol Uniswap, as announced by the company on Tuesday.

Last April, Uniswap received a Wells notice, which serves as a warning from the regulator indicating the charges the SEC intended to file.

The notice accused the decentralized exchange of functioning as an unregistered securities broker, operating an unregistered securities exchange, and issuing an unregistered security.

In response, Uniswap and its executives defended the legality of their operations in blog posts and social media, pledging to contest the charges.

Following the SEC’s decision to drop the charges, Uniswap celebrated the outcome, describing it as a “huge win for DeFi” in a social media post.
