US Senator Introduces Bill to Fight Crypto ATM Fraud
The cryptocurrency industry is facing ongoing challenges in consumer protection as criminals take advantage of the anonymity and irreversibility of crypto transactions, particularly through ATMs.
Senator Durbin’s proposed legislation stands as one of the first targeted federal efforts to regulate crypto ATM networks, which have mostly escaped regulation despite their increasing presence in American communities.
Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) introduced the “Crypto ATM Fraud Prevention Act” to tackle persistent crypto fraud schemes, as he announced on the Senate floor on February 25, 2025.
“As technology advances, so do the tactics of scammers,” Durbin stated in a message to NBC News, which first reported on the new bill.
