Australia Grants Licensing Relief for Crypto Platforms Offering Stablecoins
Australia’s ASIC has introduced a four-year exemption for crypto intermediaries distributing stablecoins. The move means licensed platforms like exchanges and brokers can now offer fiat-pegged crypto assets without needing a separate license, significantly reducing regulatory friction.
The relief, which requires distributors to provide key disclosure documents to retail clients, is a strategic step to define the rules of the road for crypto assets ahead of broader formal legislation.
It allows the market to develop while ensuring essential consumer protections are maintained until the exemption sunsets in 2028.
