Illinois Joins Regulatory Wave with New Crypto Exchange and ATM Laws

Illinois has stepped up its crypto oversight with Governor Pritzker enacting two laws to regulate exchanges and ATMs.

The first, SB 1797, empowers regulators to monitor crypto firms, enforcing capital, cybersecurity, and disclosure rules akin to traditional finance.

The second, SB 2319, brings crypto kiosks under state supervision—requiring registration, fraud policies, and strict fee limits (18%) and purchase caps ($2,500/day for new customers).

The measures reflect a broader trend of states asserting control over digital assets amid federal uncertainty.
