CFTC Spearheads ‘Crypto Sprint’ to Implement White House Blockchain Strategy

The CFTC is charging ahead with a “crypto sprint” to enact regulatory changes supporting blockchain innovation, following the Trump administration’s latest policy roadmap.

Acting Chair Caroline Pham revealed Friday that the agency is teaming up with the SEC’s Paul Atkins and Hester Peirce on “Project Crypto,” a new effort to modernize digital asset oversight.

“President Trump has set an ambitious goal—making America the epicenter of crypto—and the CFTC is delivering,” Pham said.

The agency’s priorities include defining crypto as commodities, adjusting rules for DeFi, and updating derivatives regulations for blockchain. These efforts stem from two direct mandates in the President’s Working Group report, alongside 16 broader interagency recommendations.
