
Metaplanet Surpasses Coinbase with 10,000 BTC Holdings After Latest 1,112 Bitcoin Purchase
Metaplanet’s shares soared over 17% after the Japanese investment firm revealed it had acquired an additional 1,112 BTC, bringing its total Bitcoin holdings to 10,000—now exceeding Coinbase Global’s reserves.
In a Monday announcement on X, Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich disclosed the $117.2 million purchase, executed at an average price of $105,435 per Bitcoin. This latest acquisition solidifies the firm’s position as a major corporate Bitcoin holder.
According to Bitcointreasuries.net, Coinbase Global holds 9,267 BTC, meaning Metaplanet has now overtaken the cryptocurrency exchange in Bitcoin holdings.
In a separate move, Metaplanet’s board approved the issuance of $210 million in ordinary bonds to EVO Fund, set to mature on December 12, 2025. The company stated that the proceeds would be “allocated toward the purchase of Bitcoin.”
