Lawsuit Alleges TaskUs Mishandled Coinbase Customer Data

A May 27 lawsuit in Manhattan accuses outsourcing firm TaskUs of failing to secure Coinbase customer data after an employee allegedly leaked sensitive information to hackers.

According to a June 3 Reuters report, Coinbase knew about the breach as early as January but only disclosed it in a May regulatory filing.

The breach involved a TaskUs employee in India photographing customer records and sharing them with cybercriminals. While TaskUs fired two workers over the incident, a separate mass layoff in January had already raised concerns about its operations.

The case underscores growing scrutiny over crypto firms’ data protection practices, particularly when relying on third-party vendors.
