As SEC Delays Staking Rules, Crypto Firms Demand Regulatory Certainty

The lack of SEC guidance on staking is creating operational hurdles for crypto businesses, prompting industry groups to step up pressure for clarity.

Speaking at Solana’s Accelerate conference, Allison Muehr of the Crypto Council for Innovation called the issue critical for Web3 growth.

Though the SEC has relaxed its stance on memecoins and stablecoins since Trump took office, staking services remain in a gray area—neither banned nor fully approved. Without formal rules, firms struggle to ensure compliance.

“We’ve seen positive engagement lately,” Muehr said, “but until the SEC acts, uncertainty will persist.”
