SEC Holds Off on Decisions for DOGE and XRP ETF Proposals
The US Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday postponed its decision on cryptocurrency ETFs linked to XRP and Dogecoin. The decision affects 21Shares Core XRP Trust, Grayscale XRP Trust, and Grayscale Dogecoin Trust, and the SEC is calling for public commentary.
The SEC remarked that “institution of proceedings is fitting given the legal and policy issues posed by the proposed rule change,” emphasizing that beginning a review “does not imply any conclusions have been made.”
Separately, the Commission delayed a decision on Bitwise’s application to allow staking rewards for its spot Ethereum ETF, indicating a need for further examination of comments and technical complexities.
The SEC has been extending deadlines on crypto ETF decisions as it addresses numerous similar filings, with an extension capacity of up to 240 days per application as per securities law.
