Indonesia Suspends Sam Altman’s Worldcoin Project
Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital, known as Komdigi, has suspended the registration licenses for Worldcoin and its identity verification service, WorldID, due to rising public concerns and potential regulatory violations.
This action places Indonesia among the growing number of countries scrutinizing the controversial crypto-biometric project backed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
In an official statement, Komdigi announced the freezing of the electronic system operator registration certificate (TDPSE) for Worldcoin and WorldID. The ministry cited irregularities involving the companies facilitating Worldcoin’s operations in Indonesia, PT Terang Bulan Abadi and PT Sandina Abadi Nusantara, as the reason for the suspension.
Alexander Sabar, Director General of Digital Space Supervision, stated that the suspension is a preventive measure following public complaints about suspicious activities related to the services.
