Paul Atkins Sworn in as US SEC Chairman

Paul Atkins, appointed by President Trump as the chair of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), was officially sworn in on April 21.

Known for supporting crypto and financial innovation, Atkins becomes the SEC’s 34th chairman, as confirmed by the agency.

In a statement, he expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by President Trump and the Senate, highlighting his commitment to collaborate with Commissioners and SEC professionals to advance the mission of facilitating capital formation, maintaining fair markets, and protecting investors.

Atkins has previously committed to establishing clear regulatory guidelines for digital assets. During Senate testimony last month, he emphasized his intention to prioritize a “rational, coherent, and principled” framework to encourage innovation and reduce market uncertainty.

He also noted that unclear regulations hinder growth and promised to focus on investor protection, depoliticizing regulation, and ensuring smart, effective oversight.
