Vitalik Buterin Unveils Roadmap for Ethereum for 2024
Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, advocates for single slot finality (SSF) as the most direct solution to address Ethereum Proof-of-Stake (PoS) design shortcomings.
Sharing the Ethereum roadmap for 2024 on X (formerly Twitter), Buterin acknowledges minimal changes from the previous year.
Highlighting six main components, he emphasizes the merge, surge, scourge, verge, purge, and splurge.
Buterin notes that with Ethereum’s technical direction becoming clearer, there are only a few minor adjustments compared to the 2023 roadmap.
The roadmap emphasized The Merge, a crucial phase designed to uphold a straightforward and robust proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus.
In September 2022, The Merge occurred, uniting the Ethereum mainnet with the proof-of-stake blockchain, the Beacon Chain.
After the merge, the noteworthy transformation on Ethereum was the shift from a resource-intensive proof-of-work (PoW) consensus mechanism to PoS, resulting in a substantial decrease in the network’s overall energy consumption.
