Chainalysis: Hackers Are Making Less Money with Bitcoin Ransomware Attacks

According to a Chainalysis report, ransomware revenue fell by 40% to $456.8 million last year, although this does not mean a decrease in the total number of attacks.

In 2021, hackers received a record $766 million in ransom for decrypting data. In 48.3% of cases last year, ransomware withdrawn funds through centralized exchanges, compared to 39.3% in 2021.

At the same time, the use of mixers, including Tornado Cash, increased from 11.6% to 15% last year.

Ransomware transactions on high-risk crypto exchanges fell from 10.9% to 6.7%.

According to Chainalysis, many companies have been forced to tighten cybersecurity measures, resorted to risk insurance and became less willing to agree to pay a ransom.
