Moldova Bans Crypto Mining Due to Energy Crisis
The Commission for Emergency Situations of Moldova has recently introduced a number of measures to save electricity during the crisis and one of them affects the cryptocurrency mining industry.
The country’s Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu had previously warned of a shortage of electricity since October 24 due to massive Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and a reduction in Russian gas supplies.
During the meeting on October 25, the commission approved measures to combat the energy crisis in the country. According to the ruling: mining of cryptocurrencies and import of the necessary equipment is prohibited.
Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița has also called on citizens to save electricity in order to reduce the load on the energy system.
