Japan’s Payment System JCB is Developing Infrastructure for CBDC

Japan is exploring options for creating a national digital currency (CBDC). The concept of the central bank for the digitalization of the financial sector will be presented by the end of the year.

The financial giants of Japan, including Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Mizuho Financial Group and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, will take part in testing the token.

The central bank has already begun to create an infrastructure for a token pegged to the yen, and the Japanese payment system JCB will join the project.

In addition, operations with digital currency can be performed using a regular plastic card. JCB’s partners are the French company IDEMIA and the Malaysian software developer Softspace.
