Miners Account for More Than 2% of Total Energy Consumption in Russia

According to Arcane Research, Russia ranks fifth after the US, China, Kazakhstan and Canada in terms of network computing power.

Vasily Shpak, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, has noted that Russian miners are increasing their Bitcoin capacity.

More than 2% of the total amount of electricity generated in Russian is consumed by citizens and companies involved in crypto mining, which is more than the energy supply for the enterprises of the agro-industrial complex.

However, the authorities have not yet recognized mining as an industry. It is not yet possible to establish the exact volumes of energy consumption, since many Russians are engaged in underground crypto mining.

According to the official, electricity consumption will become more controlled if the state legalizes mining.
