Bitcoin Mining Difficulty Reaches a New Record High
On Wednesday, the Bitcoin mining difficulty saw a 3.9% increase, reaching a new all-time high in the final adjustment before the halving, expected to occur on April 20.
At block height 838,656, it reached a record of 86.39 trillion, according to the blockchain explorer Mempool.
This suggests that Bitcoin miners are increasing their mining activity in anticipation of the block subsidy rewards decreasing from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC next week.
The mining difficulty of Bitcoin is a measure of how difficult it is to mine a new block compared to the easiest it can ever be.
It is adjusted every 2016 blocks, approximately every two weeks, to ensure that a new block is found on average every 10 minutes, no matter how many miners are actively mining.
