Polygon Rolls Out a Web3 Identity Service

Polygon has launched a Web3 identification service, Polygon ID, to enable blockchain applications to verify user data without exposing their personal information.

The service makes use of zero-knowledge proofs, which facilitates secure authentication of accounts while keeping them encrypted for the relying party.

According to the team, Polygon ID provides compliance for both Web 2.0 and Web3 industries and facilitates stronger regulation through KYC/AML checks. Additionally, the reusability and self-service nature of credentials reduce the cost, time and complexity of signing up and verifying users.

The tool has already been tested by several crypto and NFT projects, including Kaleido, Fractal, and Collab.Land. Furthermore, Polygon is integrating development into the upcoming Ethereum network scaling solution, zkEVM, which is scheduled to be launched in beta on March 27.
