California Bill to Enable Crypto Payments Advances to Senate

A California bill that would permit state agencies to accept cryptocurrency payments has passed the Assembly unanimously.

AB 1180 now moves to the Senate, where approval would send it to Governor Newsom’s desk.

The bill requires the DFPI to establish crypto payment rules, with a 2026 start date and a pilot phase until 2031.

If passed, California would join a growing list of states integrating digital currencies into government transactions.
