
Metaplanet Expands Bitcoin Treasury with $15.2 Million Purchase, Surpassing 20,000 BTC
Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has further solidified its Bitcoin strategy by acquiring an additional 136 BTC for approximately $15.2 million, the company announced Monday. The purchase was executed at an average price of $111,666 per Bitcoin, according to a statement from CEO Simon Gerovich on X.
This latest acquisition brings Metaplanet’s total Bitcoin holdings to 20,136 BTC, with a total investment of roughly $2.08 billion at an average purchase price of $103,196 per Bitcoin.
The company now ranks as the sixth-largest corporate Bitcoin holder globally among publicly traded companies, trailing industry leader MicroStrategy (636,505 BTC) and several other major holders.
Despite the substantial Bitcoin accumulation, Metaplanet’s stock experienced a slight decline of 1.2% in midday trading in Tokyo. The company’s shares have faced recent pressure, falling 30% over the past month, though they maintain a significant 101% gain year-to-date. The US-traded shares closed at $4.86 on Friday, down 1.6%.
